About this cartoon: The ravages of COVID-19 were the worst catastrophe to hit the U.S. since the "Spanish Flu" epidemic of 1918, claiming more than 250,000 lives around the time this was drawn — the worst outcome in the entire world thanks in no small part to the science-denying incompetence of the Trump Administration and its followers. Front-line workers in hospitals were asked to fight an endless, overwhelming battle against a deadly disease, and to do so without sufficient protective equipment (and in some cases, without sufficient ICU capacity).
